Anyone know if the dead horse is still out there?

The horse is eight tenths of a mile from the Rogers Trough trail head and not removed or burned as far as I know.

Actually I meant the #110 junction. So that would put it before the junction if it's 8/10ths of a mile from Rogers Trough.

We kept an eye out but did not see it almost two week ago when we went to Reavis. On the return Stefan did catch a scent near a bend in the creek. Seconds later I got what can only be described as a light yet disturbing whiff, luckily it passed quickly and was short lived. I really didn't care to go look around the bend and told Stefan to keep moving!

Yeh, it's where you cross the creek, I didn't see it coming uphill, I smelled it. As I stood there trying to figure out where it was, I saw it. This was in Jan/Feb though and the horse hadn't rotted yet very much.

Because today's horse owners are too lazy to do trail maintenance, bury, or burn the dead horses. Half of em are probably yuppy Scottsdale wannabes who have never done real work their entire lives and wouldn't know which end of a shovel to hold. The dead horse at Reavis Ranch is probably rotted pretty good now I would think. So now apparently in addition to the loppers we're going to have to carry shovels into the Supes.

fortunately, there are 5 ways to access Reavis Ranch and at least 3 to get in to Angel Basin.

Because once it's dead, it's dead! :yuck:

And it takes two or three hot summers for the carcass to completely decompose and even then the odor will linger at that spot for maybe another year or two. To burn a horse or cow carcass takes a very very lot of firewood and most horseman as already posted are just to !@#$%^&* lazy to do it.

Anyone have any idea why the coyotes, vultures, ravens, rats, ants, etc. aren't doing their job? Maybe they are.
I've never actually seen this illustrious dead horse. My mom saw it when her backpacking group went in to Angel Basin. I guess our buddy John drank water straight from the creek just around the corner downstream from this illustrious horse. My mom reproached him for not using his filter, but he replied along the lines of "this is pure, clean Arizona water."
I guess we can blame John's karma for the dead horse.
