My next Peak...help

Post by gsxr907 »

Hello!
I was wondering where should I head next..??
I have done..

Picket Post
Picacho Peak
Vulture Peak
Camelback (via cholla)

I am looking for a trail & climbing (without gear) something that has a trail/trail head/parking and a Summit!
Oh and yes I have used the map feature on this site...just looking for comparable hikes to what I have done.
Thanks
F N G

Are you trying to stay close to Phoenix? I have similar tastes, since moving back to Phoenix last year I have hit both of the highest peaks in the White Tanks on the west side of town. In town you have Lookout Mtn, North Mtn, Shaw Butte, Squaw Peak and a couple of nice short peaks in the Sonoran Preserve.

Not too familiar with the Superstitions, so I have only hiked there once and did Flatiron.

For more of an adventure there is Peak 3465 in the Hieroglyphic Mountains near Lake Pleasant off of Castle Hot Springs Road. I attempted Big Horn Peak and will attempt it again next winter.

how far you are willing to drive?

otherwise

- AZ
- May
- peaks
- 2 to 7 miles
- 500 to 3200 ft
http://hikearizona.com/map.php?M=3&SHOW ... PN=1&ID=34

There is also a filter for "no off-trail" but you might miss out some good ones as some have non-maintained use-trails.

@joe bartels
Any chance you could tweak your nifty program to display ALL the "dive" bars of Arizona with search criteria based on price/pint, company, brand, style, ABV, etc. If you need any more ideas, then http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/105/580 should give you a good idea about the beer "stuff" all HAZers are clamoring to know about.

Mmmmm! Maybe I'm more of a visionary than I was ever willing to give myself credit for.

Driving is not a Issue..I am at the Tanks 2 to 3 times a week,
I have yet to get to a peak there...I did not know know you could reach a peak there (legally)

You shouldn't have any issue reaching the higher peaks in the White Tanks. I've run into a few workers along the service roads and no one has ever been hostile or even asked me to leave. As long as you aren't causing any trouble, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Toughest thing about Goldwater Peak and the Radio Towers peak is route finding. Don't think the rangers care about going up to the peaks, they don't want you going off trail if you are looking for petroglyphs.

I am going to search for the 411 on getting up there...

Just did the Alta Trail on South Mountain over the weekend. Parked on the trailhead at 43rd Avenue and Estrella. My first time out there, but I was impressed.
