Nix Medical Center: Designed by architect Henry T. Phelps, the Nix was a Gothic-style structure, reaching twenty-four stories from the banks of the San Antonio River, and was deemed “the first of its kind in the world.” Businessman and developer Joseph Madison Nix had bought the property from the heirs of Ferdinand Ludwig Herff in 1920.

100 years later: Jan 2020 A South Texas hotel group has purchased the historic downtown building that previously housed Nix Medical Center, according to a Bexar County deed filing. (I just read this: Rumor has it that Joseph Nix, the developer of Nix Hospital swan dived off the roof to his death. In fact, there's lots of stories about this building. I think they could write a book or do a movie.)

InnJoy San Antonio LLC bought the property, located at 414 Navarro St., taking out a $19 million loan from Green Rock Properties to fund the transaction. The 200,000-square-foot tower faces the River Walk.

Enjoy Hospitality Groups, based in the Rio Grande Valley, operates 15 hotels, according to the company's website. A page already live for the former Nix property shows it will operate under the Marriott Hotels flag.
