COUSINS IN TEXAS is what I called this. And actually, we are first cousins as our dads were part of the Romain Bros in Montana. Wendy and her sister Cynthia (born one week after cousin Connie) live in Katy, and cousin Connie and I live in the Valley of the Sun. FYI - they get 50 to 60 inches of rain in Katy every year. I can't even imagine.

We flew into Houston's Hobby airport on the day of the eclipse of which we didn't get to see anything but a slight fading of light. We headed for cousin Wendy's (Wendy is 10 months older than me). Wendy is the one I persuaded to do the France and St James Way of the Camino in Spain with me this October. Anyway, we had a great BBQ and conversation fest
.

DAY ONE (7000 steps) The next day we headed for San Antonio with a stop to self-tour three of the Painted Churches out of Schulenberg (all by Germans; we were pretty surprised by that) https://www.schulenburgchamber.org/pain ... rches-tour. The weather was not the best. We did have lunch and I had a wonderful Lavosh Pizza, like they have/had at The Grapevine in Scottsdale. The owner said they didn't call it that as it's just a special flour but she was glad I told her about it. We had their Pecan Bread Pudding for dessert. All of it was YUMMY! And they have a garden store right outside so we checked out the flowers and plants. A great combo I think.

As we continued our drive to San Antonio I was amazed at how green it was. And yes, we saw lots of wildflowers including my first time seeing the famous Texas Blue Bonnets. I was quite excited about that. It was also interesting that swallows came and went under many of the bridges over the freeways. In fact, there was lots of bird activity.

Once we got settled in our rooms, we headed our for the Riverwalk which we were right above. We walked quite a ways. It was quite warm and crowded. We then tried to find a place for dinner, which we did. We had the biggest Creme Brulee (they made it big enough for us all to share) that was very tasty. That nite I woke up to a huge storm that was passing through the area. We were on the 9th Floor so I had quite the view. I backed away from filming once the hail started pounding. Wendy said they got 5 inches of rain from that storm and they had already quite a bit from a few days before.

DAY TWO (14,000 steps) we walked down to the Alamo and to the Chamber of Commerce that was not open. However, one of the workers saw us gawking and invited us in as we wanted to know about how to get to the missions. There were a couple other people there and they basically said the buses don't run there anymore. We continued our walk and had lunch and then headed back to try and find the theatre to go see The Alamo movie before touring the church. Well that was an adventure as we totally went the long way. It wasn't so bad for Wendy and I, but the older girls were getting a little annoyed with our lack of route finding.

We toured the Alamo and museum and then took a break at the hotel before heading back down a different part of the Riverwalk to find a Mexican restaurant I found on the internet. Connie and I split the Chi Chi Margarita and let me tell you; it was the best. And I did learn the true meaning of Chi Chi which is a drink I learned about from a cousin-in-law who served in Okinawa. Anyway, it made for an amusing time for the waiter (former military) and our table.

We walked around a little before catching an evening cruise on the little river they have. (FYI better to do it an night). The lighting at night made it very fun and we had a good guide. FYI - if you fall into the river, just stand up. I have to say, I was very impressed with the architecture and the feel of the area where we were. It was great and I hope I get to go back. I've always wanted to do the Riverwalk, so another item checked.

Here are the movies I made, the night cruise (Day Two) has @LosDosSloFolks music throughout and it goes perfecte with the movie. Thank you Greg!

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
