LORE OF THE BLUEBONNET
This practice gave rise to the myth that the padres had brought the plant from Spain, but this cannot be true since the two predominant species of bluebonnets are found growing naturally only in Texas and at no other location in the world.
They ARE NOT edible.
Castilleja indivisa, commonly known as Texas Indian paintbrush or entireleaf Indian paintbrush, is a hemiparasitic annual wildflower native to Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. INTERESTINGLY the roots of an Indian Paintbrush plant will form an association with the roots of a nearby Texas Bluebonnet plant and will draw off a portion of the nutrients and moisture it needs to thrive, without harming the host bluebonnet.
