Wayne and I were born here and the ranch is about 1/2 hour to the north. Fort Benton is a fabulous little town to visit along the Missouri River... so many great stories and history with four museums.

UL George Montgomery's "Rider of the Purple Sage" (married to Dinah Shore). Hollywood actor who later became a sculptor, created this piece. In 1984, my mom and I sat next to him at the NW Rendezvous Art Show in Helena MT. An interesting story is that he taught me how to clap properly... who knew.

LL This heroic-sized statue, created by renowned Western artist Bob Scriver, depicts Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, along with Sacagawea and her infant son, Pomp.
The memorial commemorates the nine days the Corps of Discovery camped at the confluence of the Marias River and Missouri River while determining the correct route to the Pacific Ocean.

UR The Romains and other relatives names appeared in the River Press many times.

Middle: Shep became famous for his unwavering loyalty to his master, a sheepherder who fell ill and was taken to St. Clare Hospital in Fort Benton in 1936.
When his master passed away and his body was shipped back East by train, Shep followed the casket to the depot and continued to wait by the train tracks for the next 5.5 years, hoping for his master's return.

LR An interpretive area just to the west of Fort Benton. The area is characterized by open plains, striking cliffs, and the Missouri river itself, which remains largely unchanged since the time of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
