Pretty fancy building. The original dam on this site, built in 1890, was the FIRST hydroelectric dam in Montana and on the Missouri River.
The site is historically significant as the upper limit for steamships on the Missouri River and a famous portage point, dating back to Lewis and Clark's visit in 1806.
Built in 1927 by the Montana Power Company, Black Eagle Dam is part of a system of hydroelectric dams in the Great Falls area. The dam is a three-unit hydroelectric generation plant located two miles downstream of Great Falls.
