our Vrbo on Jamaica Beach in Galveston. There was lots of activity on this beach as you can drive on it, but not overnite camp on it. A unique "city within a city" located on the West End of Galveston Island. It is one of the few places on the island where you can experience both the Gulf of America and West Bay within a few blocks of each other.

"The area between the deck and the water is part of the critical dune system. These dunes and the vegetation growing on them (like the sea oats visible in my photo) are the island's primary defense against storm surges. This is why the houses are built on high pilings—it keeps the living areas safe during high tides and bay flooding."
