I was joined by a PR man from the Resolution Mine Co. They are the ones building the controversial mine by Oak Flats. They are working, in talks, with the Silver King people to restore not only this historic trail but the Bellamy and a couple other historic trails including the Pinal City area. We had a brief tour of the Silver King Property before hitting the Stoneman, reviewing old pictures. Then we hit the trail, which is not in too bad of shape. Up-up-up the grade topping at the saddle just north of Kings Crown Peak. Over the saddle is a silica mine and the road continues to Top-Of-The-World. Had a great time and on return we spent time further exploring the Silver King Property,(Still a working mine), and were treated to finding our own samples of gold, copper, and silver from some tailings piles. It must be noted that without permission no one is allowed on Silver King Mine property, they have dogs and armed security. There is a way to access Stoneman Grade without trespassing and I will post a GPS route once I get it documented. The area was devastated by a fire years ago and seems rather bland until you get to higher elevation. For me it was the historical significance that was meaningful. A fun filled day. |
