| partners | | met the gaggle of HAZ-hikers in the pre-dawn darkness - bad with names, there were a bunch of 'J's - Jake, Joe, Jim, John...? departed the trailhead at 0530. Stars were out, clouds began moving in. Tough climb - bad week to be on a cycle of no-carb - didn't have much gas in the legs, but toughed it out and got the the top just as Joe and others were taking Jake over to the peak. Jim and I enjoyed a nice break on the Flatiron. Clouds were swirling around up top, views east were pretty much obscured. Descent was much easier! Quite a few hikers were making their way up the trail, we could see a pretty strong front on its way across the valley. Jake and I made it out of the draw turning north toward LDSP when the pelting hail hit. Quickly donned rain gear and continued on. The desert is looking to have a very green and colorful spring bloom. Amazing how FAT the saguaros are... just bulging! Loaded up as another squall moved in and dumped.. obscuring views of the mountain.
thanks for the invite HPP and good meeting other HAZ-ards. |
