This hike kicked my butt and had to be the slowest hike I have done in years.

The upper half of Hieroglyphics Canyon was much harder and slower than I had planned. The trail just above the petroglyphs was fairly overgrown with brush, probably due to all the rain we have had. Then there was a couple hundred feet of scree to climb. The creek was flowing beautifully, but even this caused problems keeping portions of the trail wet. All this made for a slow climb.

The ridgeline was fantastic. The Supes are so green and it was very obvious from up there. Visibility was good. If I had had more time I would have loved to just sit on top and look around for a couple hours. I kept stopping to take pictures. In fact someplace up there I left behind my Leki hiking staff while taking photos. If anyone happens to come across an orphaned Leki hiking staff in the western portion of the ridgeline, let me know. Surprisingly there were spots on the ridgeline that I could hear the water flowing in the streams below. Being a weekday there was no one else on the ridgeline.

Then there was the descent down the Siphon Draw trail. This trail has always been my least favorite trail in the Supes. There are only two good points on this trail, the top and the bottom. In between the trail was full of egg shells, orange rinds, white and blue spray paint. YUK. Definitely the low point of the hike. Always a slow hike for me.

Next time I visit the ridgeline I am going to do an out and back via the Carney Springs trail.
