| no partners | | This off trail canyon has been on my list for a bit now and today was the day to check it out. On the way in, I took the long way and started up the wash near the TH. When the wash got a little tiresome I hit the flat area on the east side of the wash until it became a 'bushwhack from hell' going up and over ridges so I dropped back down to the flowing canyon and followed up that since it was mostly free of trees & bushes. As I neared the actual canyon as it cut thru Wilson Mt, I found a cairned trail that I would have to hit on the way back. The canyon was pretty sweet and not too difficult to rock hop along with only minor obstacles to go around. I eventually climbed a ridge in the middle of the canyon near the 'end' of the canyon before it turned into cliffs that made a good overlook of the canyon and a sweet 200-300ft waterfall coming off of Wilson Mt. Hmm, I might have to add that waterfall to the extreme canyoneering list but I'm in no hurry to hike that much rope up Wilson Mt. On the way back, I took that sidetrail which ended up being fairly easy to follow and heads over to the Brins Mesa 'road' and before you know it you're back at the TH. |
