| no partners | | I'll call this hike Wind Cave Plus. Started my way up to Wind Cave at 6:12am and arrived at the sign to the cave at 6:40. Pretty good pace considering some picture taking stops on the way up. Decided to continue on up the unmaintained trail to the Pass Mountain Ridgeline. Some scrambling is required. Nothing difficult, but you've got to watch for loose rock. It is everywhere, and no matter how good of traction you think your shoes have, it means nothing when you step on loose gravel on a steep surface. Be smart, use your hands where necessary and watch your step. Its trickier going down.
Great light on the way down. I stopped several times for pictures of the surrounding flora that is in full bloom. Best wildflowers are on the upper half of the Wind Cave trail. Purple, indigo, red, yellow and white flowers everywhere.
Made it back to the parking lot just before 8am. The lot which had one car before my arrival was now full, and so were the two side parking lots. Glad I missed the crowd. |
