| partners | | This qualifies as my longest backpack to date. Headed out with Bob, Denny & Berk to conquer the Royal Arch Loop in 4 days. Unable to tackle the rappel as a knotted-line down-climb I parted with the group and retraced the route back up alone. Not a concern for most, Berk even climbed up and down several times with ease.
Even with my pack 10-15 pounds lighter than the others I can see a few pounds to cut.
Generally being more hot weather tolerant I was very thankful it was near perfect temps throughout. Coming back up Royal Arch Canyon I was astonished at the volume of water I was consuming. The back of my shirt was dripping and my sunglasses needed wipers at times. Mind you the temps were in the sixties with a light wind. With reports of knee deep wades a week prior and nothing of the such encountered (except small patches of snow on the Kaibab) I'd hate to be here when it's actually... hot.
Denny treated us to brunch at the Pine Country Restaurant in Williams on the way home. Good food, I'll be back. Downtown Williams is a funky cool place. Thanks Bob for setting this up, inviting me, putting up with me and driving us like only you can Thanks to all for paying my dues, it's very much appreciated!
Before heading out I'd read on the forum where Berk mentioned he liked going solo. With my first opportunity to pack alone I must say there are some advantages. Yet I'd rather have the company ;)

Also got to meet and hike a little with Berk's dad and cousin down to the Esplanade! |
