Heading in the place seemed abandoned for a Sunday. With the exception of some running event winding up. Judging by the overuse of chalk/flour they were coming up Corona East then likely down the Corona West or maybe over to Telegraph.
The brittlebush has peaked, right now is the time to see the yellow iron glory in the preserves. Globe mallow is hearty too and adds a nice splash of color. The fiddleneck is bone dry while most of the others are getting close to that stage.
Turning the corner and leaving Fatman's I passed a mother and her little boy. Slightly concerned they were relieved when I pointed to Fatman's below. About a minute later I passed the father carrying another little boy. In the distance I heard the first little boy holler out "dad we found it!". That was the coolest thing I've heard in a long time.
Continuing back I encountered waves of groups heading out to Fatmans Pass. Most of which inquired about the remaining distance and if they were headed in the right direction. One mother and her daughter had a small basket. They each wore gardening gloves and were out looking for flowers to pick. The little girl was looking to add some white color to the mix.
This is the second hike after the leg issue. Getting better, no longer tight and I can walk in a straight line. Uneven surfaces are still not a joy. |
