| no partners | | On Monday, April 19 I attempted the Cibolla / Big Arsenic hike. The hike requires crossing the Red River then continuing to hike along the Rio Grande past the Little Arsenic and Big Arsenic springs and campgrounds. I was stopped at the Red River Crossing where the foot bridge has been removed and the water was raging. No way even a wet crossing was possible.
I returned on Wednesday and did a wonderful hike starting from the La Junta Point trailhead descending to La Junta (confluence of the Red River and the Rio Grande). I then hiked the well defined trail along the Rio Grande past Little and Big Arsenic springs and campsites and continued about a quarter mile past Big Arsenic to a rock art site. From there I returned up the Big Arsenic rim trail to the rim and hiked cross country on top of the rim back to my car at La Junta point.
This is a great hike but forget about the Cibolla route for now. |
