At about 0.75 mile there was a large downed tree about 3 to 4 feet in diameter facing uphill. Needed to walk on that and continue up less than 100 feet where the trail became clear again. After a mile there were occasional downed trees across the trails that were easy to get by.
The 5 mile hike on top of the Rim to the Drew Canyon trail has snow, mud, water and also plenty of dry ground as well. The big secret to successfully hiking on top is to select the dry ground most of the time. I think I may have hiked less than 0.5 mile in snow all day and could have avoided that if I wanted.
A beautiful hike in cool temps on the rim. |
