| no partners | | After 2 previous failed hikes (bad ankle, food poisoning), I made it to the spring! Got to the parking lot at 9:30 due to 3 road construction delays. Made myself hike straight to the top without stopping for photos. I saw a group encampment on the other side of the creek about 2 miles up of at least 15 tents. Hummmmm. Enjoyed the spring for about 10 minutes and met a nice young couple from Tucson also enjoying their first time at the spring. Then a group of about 30 teenage girls with their "leaders" descended, smashing flowers and moss, kicking dirt everywhere, dropping food in the water, etc. I tried to wait them out, but they decided to have lunch there. I would have loved to have spent more time taking pictures.
On the way back down, I noticed a steady stream of trash left by the hoard--pieces of wrapper, a whole cheese and breadstick snack, and yuk!! toilet paper right next to the trail, with poop! I picked up alot of their trash and plan to call the ranger station tomorrow morning. Those "leaders" need to be horsewhipped! Just what are they teaching these kids???
Some monsoon action picked up, making clouds, thunder and a little rain. I think it helped with the pictures. Frittilaries were everywhere, wildflowers were moderate. It is such a beautiful place. |
