Went up Dandrea Trail #285 to the saddle between Mount Union and Mount Davis then down 285 to the old Dandrea ranch site. Back up to the saddle then down the Yankee Doodle Trail #284 to Big Bug Mesa Road and then back up to Mount Union. I then returned to the car.
I could not have asked for better weather. Temps in the 70s, light breeze, and lots of Fraleys. Very nice day in the Bradshaws with great photo opportunities.
These trails are very rocky. The dogs are most assuredly barking as I type this. I saw a bunch of turkeys, and quite a few poults. I had my first mole sighting at the old Dandrea Ranch site. Not much there except for a meadow surrounded by a rock wall and an old water tank that was (predictably) shot full of holes and filled with trash.
It looks like I hiked the entire Dandrea Trail #285, and I may write it up. I thought I did the entire Yankee Doodle Trail #284, but evidently the mystery trail I saw leading south from Mount Union is the continuation of that trail that runs for quite a few miles. Perhaps I'll do the entire thing another day, but it's more likely that someone else will get the opportunity before I do.
On a personal note I've surpassed 2009's mileage total and am about 2 good hikes away from doing the same with respect to elevation. |
