I have been bad mouthing this trail of late, and must admit it was nice to have a mellow gradient for a change. It was a very warm sunny day, which made it a bit tough, as there is a lot of exposure on this route. No relief from the monsoon today as there were virtually no clouds. The real reason I wanted to do this was to check out Sprung Spring, one of my favorites in the range. I had heard it was dry in recent times, but knew that was crazy, since it is one of the most reliable springs in this mountain range. Someone on the trail recently told me it was fixed and flowing strong. Sure enough, old reliable was back! Filled one of the water bottles. Just a short ways up to Josephine Saddle, then it was on to McBeth Spring. There was a slow trickle of water from that one. Filled the other water bottle here. So back down the Super Trail I went, with water from two springs to enjoy on this hot sunny day!
I have drunk water from four springs in this area in the past four days: Sylvester, Armour, Sprung, and McBeth. |
