So I started walking them, and a week later, the where dozing the trail with a little tractor, so i can say i am the few that walk these new old mining trails in the Ahwatukee area. Gila trail; Lost Mine Trail; Drop Trail; Valley Trail; Gila View West Trail which is in my back yard literally; Ruins Trail; and the Kebo trail. All of these trails can be reached at the end of Chandler in Ahwatukee. Not sure what the parking laws here, but people do park at the end of the road. A free bus shuttle takes you to the end, called the Alex bus if you want to walk the trail from the Gila back over to the Pima Trail head for parking. The Gila Trail is my favorite, especially the summit and later on a huge rock, that has lot od breeze always flowing over it on the way to telegraph pass trail. the national trail meets this trail at the civil service cook shelter near telegraph pass, which is a great night viewing area of Phoenix. |
