| no partners | | woke up at the campsite trailer heaven 'hated that campsite in a tent; parking lot' it was 17 degrees that morning with gust of winds up to 50 mph. my skin was freezing, so I suited up to avoid frostbite. got to the trail head at the break of day. headed on down the trail, which was pretty easy until the steps that where made for mules started messing with my knee because I could nt change the leg to step down. so i had to step and then half step the whole way down, and for a knee guy with no cartilage that was no fun. but the trail was freakin amazing. it still had snow on the ground up at the top, but started to quickly warm up. their was a crossing that I had to get on me hands and knees because the wind was so strong you could not walk across it without getting blown off that narrow section. after that is was fairly easy trail, it just starts to wear on the toes a little. the landscape reminded me of mars, so I had fantasies I was walking on mars to have a little fun. The ground squirrels were so funny. everytime I sat down, they come out of the wood work to get feed. One bit my brother because he wouldnt feed them. Loved the tunnel at the bottom, and the bridge. The camp at phamtom as very pretty and the cottonwoods were the only green around. the wind quickly started up and because we where in a natural breezeway, the winds were 60 MPH and the tent rested on my body the whole night. but I slept good even though I was a little worried the cottonwoods would come crashing down on me at any moment. Sleeping pills does wonders, lol. two skunks came to greet me in the early morning before day break, and seem to fight right under my feet until I jumped up on the table trying not to get sprayed. lol Breakfast for a normal grandma country breakfast but was not worth it at all, but the experience was worth it. there was a pay phone at the bottom, so bring your phone card. all and all, it was a great trail, but I would not tell someone who isnt in shape to do it. it is a ball busting hike. |
