I started out with the intention of doing a quick recon for tomorrow's hike with some friends but the farther I went up the more areas I found for future hikes.

I started by following Siphon Draw until just past the slick rock section, then turned off to the left to follow the ravine up to the northeast. But before heading up the first ravine I headed up toward the southeast in the direction of Siphon draw again to look up the third ravine. Maybe that will be for a day I'm willing to hike with a bit more exposure, but for now I went back to the first ravine. I continued up that ravine for 1/4 mile, taking numerous photos because I'd never been up this way nor seen Flatiron from this vantage point. After going far enough to allow me to sketch out hikes to 3 or 4 different routes, I turned right and headed toward the next ravine to the south. Once in that ravine I turned right again so I was heading back down to the west, planning on staying in the ravine until reconnecting to the first ravine. I came up short of reconnecting when I came to what appeared to be a straight drop of 25-30', so I had to climb up and across before I could come back down into the first ravine. Once I was below the drop I looked back up to it and found the rock overhung a straight wall by a few feet so there was no way I would have been able to climb down without ropes. But I didn't have to go too far back up to avoid it so no big deal.

I continued back down the first ravine until a hundred feet before where I turned of Siphon Draw on the way up, where I headed straight back over to Siphon Draw again. Just as I was crossing over, I noticed a golf ball lodged in a bush. I'm guessing someone threw it from over on the Siphon Draw Trail and watched to see how far it would bounce. I'm not a golfer, but I picked it up just the same... trash out, you know.
BTW, it's a Bridgestone Tour B330-RX if anyone wants it. I guess you'll have to hike with me to get it though. ;)

Once back to the slick rock area I encountered a large mixed group about college age. Kind of funny to watch... they all appeared to be novice hikers. I stayed out of their way and continued on back to the car at the new fee-free trail head. I had 90+ photos on the day, posting 25 of what I feel are the best here on HAZ.
The rest will be posted here on my web site:
