| no partners | | Just a brief outing today to check out the newly opened Siphon Draw Trail Head. I hiked up the trail a short distance, then turned around and came back. I got a late start and wasn't out too long, but long enough to realize that I don't want to be on this trail on the weekends. It almost looked like a waiting line at Disneyland.
McKellips road is pretty good most of the way, but the last couple hundred feet require a high ground clearance vehicle and parking is at a premium. So this spot could get crowded pretty fast once more people find out about it.
The GPS says that the altitude is about 2,400 feet so you're getting a head start at the climb to the Flat Iron and the trail is so clear that there's no need for ciarns anywhere. You start out by passing close to a couple of houses but all is fenced and well marked. The junction with the main Siphon Draw Trail is marked by a large two-post sign (with no markings on it).
I am posting some photos so you can get an idea of the Trail head. Jack |
