The sky has been overcast the last couple of days, and today was windy in Flag, but I crossed my fingers and drove out anyway. The wind was strong enough to shake my tripod, so I made sure to wrap the camera strap around my hand so that I wouldn't lose the whole outfit over the edge if a strong gust came along.
I kept my eye on the clouds toward sunset, hoping for some good color, but a thick cloud layer at the horizon kept a light show from happening. It also kept the "supermoon" rise from being seen. I had a great location picked out, but that just wasn't to be.
Hopped back in the truck and headed for home. When I down Leupp Road, I could see some moonshine in my rearview mirror. Then it popped through the cloud layer and I parked the truck off the side of the road, got the camera out, took a couple shots with the lens that I had been using at Grand Falls (the wide angle) and quickly changed to the big boy--the 50-500. That one needs the tripod, so out it came, set up and got some nice moon shots. It was so bright out there!
If the clouds hold off this afternoon/evening, I'm going back out. But, it is supposed to snow tonight by 11:00...... |
