The trail to the rim was very nice, with abundant wildflowers--red clover, fleabane, and some senecio blooming everywhere. I really need to study the senecios because they can be so similiar.
Down into the canyon and around the corner to the lily pond. Stopped to take pictures of the claret cup cactus that are in bloom and to watch the garter snakes feeding on bullfrog tadpoles. Those pictures on in another photoset. The wild iris are in bloom down where they've gotten alot of moisture and the lily pond is in bloom--but it blooms all summer long. Ran into a man with 6 kids trying to fish the tanks--I don't know what he thought he would catch! The wild minnows only grow to about 6 inches that I've seen.
After the lily pond, I trekked upstream and downstream a ways, but the gem was the lily pond. Hiked back out, went home and still had time to go to the grocery store! Only 7 more work days until summer vacation |
