| no partners | | Took the Lakes Trail from Wolverton to Heather Lake. I wanted to go all the way to Pear Lake, but since I sat for 2 hours in the park in stopped traffic due to road construction, I didn't get started hiking until almost 2:30. Didn't want to be in a strange national forest alone in the dark with who knows what critters! This trail was in mostly woods & shaded with water and snow at the top. I saw 6 people the whole day on the trail, so it was nice and had lots of solitude. The trail was hard to follow once the snow started appearing since it was in the woods. Heather Lake was still ice covered in some spots and was a pretty amazing site. Alpine lakes are beautiful when there's still snow and ice in the scenery. The canyon around the lake made it even more majestic. I had the whole place to myself, it was quite peaceful.
I saw mom with Bambi on the way up the trail, and they didn't seem afraid of me at all! On the way down I saw 5 more deer at different times. Most of them were skittish & didn't pose for the pictures like Bambi & mom did.  |
