After being pretty well wiped out with the long day yesterday we took a leisurely drive to Riggs Lake while contemplating what to start off for our second day on Mt Graham. It didn't take long, just long enough to drive back to Cunningham while reading Preston's description and the choice, like the trail, was easy.

We parked not 40' from where the boom-box-playing folk were yesterday but thankfully today not a soul was to be found. Although a pretty short hike we passed through quite a variety of vegetation, crossed a trickling Moonshine Creek and began the easy climb toward the overlook. As we approached the secluded camping spot we were greeted by two large dogs with their gruff-mannered bark. The owners asked if we were afraid of dogs and assured us they didn't bite. I responded I wasn't the least bit afraid and continued light-heartedly that no dogs bite until they bite. But no worries here, they were some good folk (both the dogs and the couple) and we continued up the last 500' to the rocky overlook. Unfortunately with little flow there wasn't much to see and I really didn't see a falls, but then we didn't have binoculars along. Looking westward we had a great view of Fort Grant in the valley below. Took a few photos then began our walk back to the car while contemplating the next hike for the day.

As we passed back through the campsite neither the people nor the dogs were to be found, but it turned out they just took a short stroll and we met them on the return trip. After chatting about the wonderful views and the great secluded campsite we went our separate ways... except one dog decided he wanted to hike by my side. The owner's coaxing didn't seem to sway him a bit so after 50' or so I patted the dog on the back, urging him to go on, to which he slowly turned and walked back to his kin. Moments later I could feel Tracey thinking, no we aren't taking any dogs home with us!

In short, a quick and easy hike that on this day didn't follow through on our hopes.

Instead of following the same route we stuck to the 4x4 track back to the main road and followed it back to the trail head. Some distance before the road we came upon a canvas folding camp chair with a hole in the seat. It sure looked like an open-air porta-john to me so I simply couldn't resist... taking a photo, silly!
