| no partners | | Although I have been out to Picketpost Mtn. several times, I always end up hiking the AZT for a bit or just hike around the base of the mountain taking photos of the area. There is an old corral and windmill that are highly photogenic. Today I wanted to check out the summit trail for a future summit attempt.
I followed a very well marked and traveled trail up to the 2,800 ft level before turning around. Last year around June, there was a pretty good fire in the area and it has destroyed a lot of the low growing brush and cacti in the valley and up the sides of the mountain. Today there is fresh green growth, even after that extremely dry summer, to suggest that given a damp spring, the area will return to its old self.
Visibility was limited today, as humidity hung low and heavy in the air. The Superstition Mountains that are normally visible in the distance, were but a blur on the horizon. The trail head is popular with horse riders and hikers alike, with lots of parking and restroom facilities are available. Put this hike on your list, if you haven't already. |

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip. |
