| no partners | | This was a special hike and 3 of us did it. There are no trails to the top of Table Mesa Mountain. A friend asked if I would help trailblaze so with permission of the state land trust dept (well sort of i submitted the paperwork and they cashed the check) we drove to a point that looked promising. Trying to avoid cholla, i saw a snake, identifying scat and working our way to the top I had to be slinged up the last boulder by a friend. I am short so there would have been no other way to get up there. OMG the views were amazing and we ran around the top looking for the ruins that were supposed to be up there but could not find any.
The trek down was treacherous and dangerous lots of loose rocks and no foot holds. My friend was stung by a bee and I got a knee and handful of cholla (ugh hate those little f'ers). It was getting hot as we were coming down and one forgot their water and had a cold so it was challenging and strenuous but it was about 2 miles up and back but it was straight up with some switchbacks we put in for good measure.
think i will gather rocks while the boys do it next time. |
