| no partners | | Wow, what a day! I loved everything about this hike except for the little bit of catclaw we had to endure, the FREEZING, wet feet from hiking in the snow, and the mean ranger at the end.
We started out at 8 am, knowing we'd be finishing up in the dark. We planned on doing a lasso hike out of this, which added on quite a bit of elevation. This hike seemed like it was uphill both ways! It was very well signed and marked with reflectors (thankfully, as they guided us a few times through the snow where we couldn't see trail). Once we got to Manning Camp, that was where I was wishing we had more daylight so we could've tooled around more up there, and even gone & bagged Mica Peak. And, I would've even liked to take a longer break at the cabin, it was super cool!!! They even had a mirror on the outside for you to fix yourself up after sweating your way up there!
The views were just incredible almost the entire way, and they change of terrain was just awesome, I LOVE hikes like that! We had desert, we had woods with trails of pine needles, we had snow and even a couple streams. We even saw icicles!
I want to go back & do it again in the spring/summer where there's more daylight and mess around up there by Manning Camp & hit the peak of Mica. We just didn't have time to add in another 3 miles to do that. Spectacular hike, jaw dropping in lots of spots. Loved everything about it.
So as we were coming out, finally back to the trailhead, this ranger almost runs us down with his truck. We continue walking to the car, and he jumps out & says "where you going?", we're like "back to the car" (I mean, there WAS cold beer waiting for us!) He asked us why we were running away from him, as if we knew we were in trouble & he was trying to talk to us....... Anyway, long story short, he was a complete asshole and had a superiority complex & gave us the who struck John (no pun intended ) for being in the park after dark. Nowhere was it posted that you would be locked in there after 6:30. We got out at about 7:30. He had to act like a bad pumpkin & lecture us like elementary students & tell us we would've been locked in there until tomorrow, took our licenses and went back to his truck with them for about 15 mins, and then reprimanded us some more . Wow, what a shmuck!!!!
Besides that, it was a great day! Thanks for making me a part of it John. Wish you could've come Wal & Bob!!
Posted time is moving time, not including breaks. |
