Plan B - Kathy's coming and wants to have a bail out plan, so we were going to reverse it and do Barnhardt to Peeley so Kathy could either just turn around on Barnhardt or bail on Y-Bar.
Plan C - Everyone else dropped out, so no point in doing a shuttle hike with just the 3 of us. Let's just not have a plan & go to Peeley and along the Mazzy Divide until Kathy wants to turn around.
Plan D - Good thing we had no plan! The road to Peeley was impassible, even in the Jeep (or at least what I was willing to continue trying. Getting stuck once was enough!) So we parked at a pull out & walked the 2 3/4 mis to the TH & just went from there.
Plan E - Enjoy the amazing beauty surrounding us. DONE!
Toward the top of Peeley, the snow was impassible for the dog (found out snow shoeing the booties are too big). It was the kind where when you step through it, it shaves your ankles. So up the dog went over my shoulder for a while, until I realized it was going to be a while, so into the backpack he went. After going through a couple obstacles, we decided the trail wasn't going to leave the north side for a while, and it was getting pretty taxing, so we went to Plan F. Just go back down & tool around on Cornucopia for a while. We went down to the creek and then Kathy decided she'd had enough.
Back to the car we walked. As we were walking back, I got a glance of the snow covered road we had come down, and said "did we come down THAT???!!!!" I actually got quite nervous about how we were going to get back UP it! We had all prepared ourselves for a night there looking at that road! :-P Got to the 'ok, ready, here we go' uphill part, and low and behold, BAM, we were stuck. The girlies got out to push, but the Jeep wasn't going anywhere, so I told them to move so I could back up & let me get a running start. Putting all fears aside of fishtaling right off the damn cliff we were on, I punched it and thankfully fishtaled right up the road. Scared the be-jee-wees out of all of us! The girlies said they thought I was going off watching me from behind.
Whew, Mexican food it is at Juan Jaime's Tacos & Tequila!!!!! |
