| no partners | | Needed to go somewhere and get the legs stretched out, but didn't want too much of a workout. Was just a little stiff from yesterday...Decided to take trekkin ghecko's advice and try out this Loop.
Nice workout Loop if that's what you want. I took it a little more leisurely since it was the first time on this Trail and of course, I have the camera. This was perfect for what I needed today.
The Scenery leaves a little to be desired right now. Man, I thought the White Tanks were dry...South Mountain is looking really bad. The only plants not stressing or dead are the Creosote Bushes and the Palo Verdes, and they are not that numerous. Even the Saguaros don't look that great. Very little cacti in this area, but the Canyon areas and Washes have some cool areas. I would have really liked to see this range years ago when the Metro area really had "true" monsoon seasons....Same thought occurred to me in the White Tanks yesterday.
Hike was uneventful, there were some Hikers and Bikers on the Trail, but it was not crowded. Talked to a couple of people from ASU who are doing a Plant Study along the Javelina Trail. If you see a bunch of small netted enclosures on the Hill just south of the Trail in the first 1/2 mile, that's what's up. Looks like there's a new Well/Water Tank being built right up against the Trail a little further down too.
Did this counterclockwise today. I think if I do this as a workout, I'll go clockwise next time. Thanks to the ghecko for recommending this one. Now if she can just tell me the best route out of there to miss that dreaded rush hour..... Took me almost as long to get home as it did to do the Hike!!!
Someone please figure out a Raindance! Otherwise it's going to be an ugly Spring/Summer.... |
