A guy with a Brit accent led me over here in his car from 48th TH where I'd mistakenly gone. Did not like the looks of the parking lot. Few cars parked and surrounding business building empty on weekend. Perfect for a break-in.
Enjoyed the latter portion of Javelina Canyon going up to the Ridgeline Trail. Discovered two Gambel's quail on opposite sides of the canyon, perched atop rock ledges, looking at each other and uttering mating calls, kind of a "yow" sound. I'll try to remember this trail come wildflower season next year. Bet it was dynamite several weeks ago. I did the Ridgeline just to say I'd done it and ditto for Beverly Canyon, an unattractive jeep road under transmission lines. Near the end of the Beverly a few coyotes began to bark and howl on the west side but could not pick them up in field glasses.
Back at the parking lot, I noticed a middle-aged couple and a teen-age boy standing around inspecting their car, the man talking via mobile phone. I asked if they were having trouble and the man pointed to his car and another nearby with windows broken out. He said nothing was missing and figured it was "kids" looking for trouble. He called police to make a report. My car, parkied under a palo verde on the east end, was untouched. Lucked out this time. I don't think I will use this parking lot again on a weekend. |
