| no partners | | I was torn between driving to Cave creek to try and see some snow, or going out to Hells Canyon storm chasing, the Doppler radar at 3:30 PM was pumping West of this area. Well, I chose Baldy Mountain in the hope of getting some cool pictures of the snow capped Bradshaw's and some storm photos.
One word explains today....HAIL! What an awesome spectacle. I love weather day's like today. When the upper atmosphere cools dramatically and the heating of the boundary layer produces these awesome convective type Thunderstorms. In fact, some of these storms can artificially lower the snow level, often times, to the valley floor. Indeed, this was the case today, thunder, lightning, hail and wet snow flakes were the rule.
Of course, this hampered my hike, I had to retreat due to the training of storms coming in. I did make about a mile up the hill and got a few good photos, before the next storm approached. At one point the temperature dropped to 36 and the hail covered the road.
On the way home I encountered a nice hail storm at Lake Pleasant and Carefree Hyw. Of course I chased it up I-17 and the road was covered in Anthem and New River.....Today was just plain awesome |
