I beat the boys to the trailhead so launched up the alternate trail on my own, met the main summit trail at the saddle, not a soul in sight! Took my time staring out at the smog filled city sights and went up at a daredevil pace (almost killed my poor lungs!) finally caught up with a nice elderly gentleman who was taking his time going up, I took this as a sign to let my lungs breathe so I went the rest of the way up with him.
As for the question in the forums...yes, Hiking IS Cardio! Especially if it involves Squaw Peak! Took me 41 minutes to get to the Top!. Took my boyfriend 22 minutes at a maddening run...crazy boy! We met up with DBMooner and had a nice chat! And of course I met me some awesome Park Rangers named Roy & Mike! After a quick cartwheelat the flattest area near the summit we took off down the mountain and back to the trailhead via the popular Summit Trail...at a run, ouch! My knees weren't ready for that! But had a lovely time, can't believe what a wonderful hike that is and not too far from work and home!
