This is a Kanab Creek hike that Begins at Hack Canyon. It follows Hack Canyon for 5.5 miles which is also the boundary from BLM to the National Forest. Shortly after it meets up with Kanab Creek which it then follows for around 10 miles to the confluence with Jumpup Canyon. The route has a trail that is well cairned on the BLM side. After that there really aren't much in the way of actual trails or cairns to guide the way. It's not difficult to follow as you simply stay with the creek all the way down. In many cases there are game trails on the sides that can speed your travel.

I hit Jumpup sooner than expected so I continued on a little under a mile to see what I could find. Pretty much just more of the same so I turned back. I would have liked to go all the way down to shower bath spring but that would add 10 miles round trip. Since I was day-hiking it didn't seem worth the effort. Speaking of that I would say this is more suited for backpacking than hiking. There were several spots that would make good campsites and most likely you would have solitude. This one is about as remote as you can get in Arizona.

I wasn't sure what I thought of the hike in general, but on the way back I took some time to take it all in and it really started to grow on me. The rock formations and all the layers are super interesting. Along the way I saw several rabbits, some squirrels, a snake, two deer, a couple cows and a ton of birds.

Upon completion I was happy to see the Jeep because it meant I could get off my feet. The rocks and boulders in the riverbed took a toll on my dogs!

The road in from 109 to Hack Canyon Trailhead requires a high clearance vehicle for sure! It's a rough one! Lastly my GPS track is one way since my battery can't hang for a full 32. It's good for about 24 miles and that's it. :(
