This home has been host to birders for over 30 years, unfortunately both the Paton's have passed on, but the family is keeping it open. People from all over the World flock here Get it flock! They come to see one of the rarest Hummingbirds that breed's in the United States, the Violet Crowned Hummingbird. I was blessed to see two of them today, just me and the curator, Larry.
Although, there have been 15 species spotted here, we saw 4 or 5 consistently, including black Chinned, Anna's, Violet Crowned and Costa's. I also saw: Blue Grosbeaks, Cardinals, White Breasted Nuthatch, Rufus Sparrow, male and female Summer Tanagers, Grey Hawk, Cassin's King bird, Gold Finch, Brown headed and Golden Cow birds.
After a few hours, I took a break and headed to the almost as famous "Patagonia Rest stop" for more birding fun, many rare species have been seen here, such as the Rose-Colored Becard and Thick-Billed King bird, it's a must see if in the area. I had a great 1/2 burger at the coffee shop too |
