| no partners | | Six of us tackled this trail with crosscut and bow (no chain) saws, pick mattocks and loppers, to cut out the dead fall. We got down maybe 3/4 mile, cutting out 14-16 dead trees laying across the trail, 3-4 rather large. One of the biggest was probably 18 inches in diameter, with many limbs to be removed, that was laying across a switch back corner. We all worked on it for maybe 30-40 minutes, cutting off the limbs and then cutting the main log in two places then wrestling it carefully off the trail and down the slope, all to clear only a few feet of trail. The sawing is a workout, the climb back up was brutal. I would hate to be doing that climb with a back pack. Some awesome views from the trail, looking down on the Wilderness of Rocks, Sabino Canyon, Tucson, Mt Wrightson, etc. Another great day on the trail. |

| no partners | | Seven of us met up this morning to finish "de-logging" this connector to the AZT. We cut several 16-20 inch big ones, and a few smaller ones. Afterwards we had a break at a nice spot at the junction with the Wilderness of Rocks trail, which we took back to Marshall Gulch TH. Lunch again at the new restaurant - Sawmill - in Summerhaven, which is very nice. I could eat a bushel of their wings. |
