I Measured 280 aeg in the first quarter mile -- or very healthy 1120 feet if extended over a mile -- but I'm not sure my GPS measure the overall AEG very accurately. (My guess is more like 600 than the 930 the GPS measured.) The 60csx seemed rather confused near the top of the ridgeline, when I was searching for what appeared on satellite view to be a rather large vertical mine shaft. (I was pointing my GPS in the suspected direction, but the GPS had the arrow pointing 180 degrees opposite.) Regardless, short, but steep climb heading west straight off the 12th St trailhead, north up the ridgeline. A bit slippery, and with some exposure, especially working around some jagged outcroppings, but nothing 90% of the people here could not handle with ease. Great views from on top. Lots of hummingbirds on top. Saw a couple of hawks do dive-bombing runs ... slowly circle, then *BAM* 90 degree dive. North Scottsdale looked really polluted -- could barely see the McDowells -- as it had the four times I've driven out there the past few weeks. What's up wit dat? Headed down by going west off the crest to the Trail 100 saddle, which was steeper and slipperier than the way up, but with no exposure.
