Started the night's chase solo with a drive out to Gila Box where it looked like a small cell was building behind the Black Hills. I set up shop at the entrance overlook and watched in awe for the next 2 hours as the cell grew into a massive lightning storm that pounded the San Simon flats moving west over Safford & the northeastern Pinalenos. Heavy rain then moved in over the box forcing me back to town where I then hooked up with 2 of my storm chasing buddies who were chasing in Pima. The 3 of us then took off together down Frye Mesa road and spent the next 2 hours photographing the tail end of the storms as they moved off into the San Carlos Rez. We thought that was the end of our night, but as we were packing up a new storm emerged from behind us and a short drive out to Freeman Flat produced another hour of big strikes which we were able to get right up on!

Fantastic night of chasing, got some of my most rewarding lightning pics ever & can't wait for the next round of storms!!!
