| no partners | | First time hiking in this part of the state; I usually drive by this area thinking who the heck (besides illegal aliens) would want to hike there... The area has many steep, rocky hills and canyons, LOTS of catclaw and cactus of various sorts (reminded me of some AZ hikes!).
Pinto Canyon is very rugged and hard to traverse in places; still there were numerous signs of foot traffic from Mexico. A sad indicator of how rugged and unforgiving this area is were the remains we found of one unlucky soul. The bones had been there long enough to get sun-bleached and weathered. Kind of a sobering reminder that things don't always end happily...
Edit: The remains were reported to BLM at the recommendation of the Border Patrol. |
