| partners | | Raywing and I started at his front door and walked down his street in order to do this hike. We were at the trailhead in probably about 5 minutes. Ray says there are deer, coyotes, raccoons, skunks, hawks and other animals living in the canyon. The elevation gain and distance also reflect the walk from his house and down the steep hill into the canyon, and back. We didn't go far, but it was fun, anyway. I'll post photos later on.
The City of San Diego has been doing some work in the canyon to eliminate non-native plants, and replant native ones. We saw some black sage that had been planted, for example. There are very mature live oaks in the canyon, very old ones.
Ray was wondering how the city could afford to removed the non-native palm trees with helicopters, when they can't even fix the potholes in the streets! I suppose it must have been grant money. |
