| partners | | Another better than anticipated hike. Boulder 103 is really special in itself. I've hiked it many times. Today it left more of a lasting impression. Stunning formations, views and hues.
The dreaded boulder hop was just underway. Dave showed up and joined the group unexpectedly. He looked kinna tired. Like most teenagers he bounced back quick.
Trails are overrated so we just worked up to the middle ridge just shy of the cairned route.
I was told I was making up stories about Big Horn sheep galloping across the planter ridge. Later on Dave commented on deer droppings. I said "no that's silly how would they get up here" as I'd been ridiculed into believing it was impossib.. wait a minute, did you hear that. Five feet around the side of a boulder I see the curled horns twisting out of view. I yelled in a whisper voice to Dave. Thoughts raced through my mind processing the situation. From my vantage point it appeared the ram would trample Bruce and Denny a little ways back. Visions of Indiana Teva on the big screen riding the victory lap over the naysayers quickly dissolved when the ram gracefully reappeared far away across the mythical ridge.
Dave and I joined in on the third annual Denny New Years festivities. We sent Dave out to check the other two peaks. It appears the deemed summit log peak and the one just SW are about the same with the 3rd a tad further SW being the high point.
On the return we checked out La Barge Box a bit further than I have in the past. Which is very nice. Dave parted ways giving comical balance back to the group. Autumn was winding down. A little bit of colored foliage will probably linger for another week. Luckily we live in heaven where there is no winter so spring should be kicking in a couple weeks.
Finishing the #103 trail hike back to the trailhead the temps dropped even though the sun was making it's best appearance of the day. We passed maybe six small groups and were baffled by their late start, perhaps hippies?
hikers, non Grand Canyon views... no refunds for being bored
