| partners | | Bruce and I met Father Dave and his crew Russ, Greg, Matt and Norm. A big fat thank-you to Father Dave for getting the permits!
It will likely surprise or go on deaf ears but I'm still not flipping out about Aravaipa. The entire package is definitely a 5 out of 5, must see and all... just a little touristy. The Grand Canyon had the same initial impact on me. Over the years it has grown on me and I'm sure Aravaipa will too. On the same token don't under estimate what stunning areas Arizona has to offer in the sans permit and seldom traveled department.
That was in reference to Aravaipa Creek proper. The side canyons Virgus and Horse Camp on the other hand were incredible and must see!
Virgus is like the Superstitions Fish Creek above the bridge on steroids. It would have to leave an impression on anyone willing to accept beauty without a perennial creek. Horse Camp made me say wow as a cross between Salome and Upper Woods.
Down at the creek taking night shots I got all excited when I heard a bear. I kid you not, almost a tenth of a mile away it was Bruce snoring like I have never heard in my life. On a lighter note he sported a new cool outdoors-man look with a scruffy beard. Then amazed me with rlrjamy spiderman type moves I couldn't figure out on two occasions! His most impressive feat was keeping his tongue in check around Father Dave's crew... well almost anyhow.
If johnlp(Oregon extraordinaire) and Dave1(Massachusetts extraordinaire) gave the stunning Pinals a mild Autumn foliage rating then this one would have put them to sleep. Enjoyable, not over the top. Probably a week from prime in the west to Horse Camp. I only ventured a half mile past Horse Camp and hear further east was a sweet show to behold.
This canyon must be along the international jet highway, almost constant overhead contrails. Met another Bruce and his cataract savvy friend Jeff Maltzman. |

| | Based on lack of recent precip this seems a decent source so I added it to the database. Of course Aravaipa flows nearby too. | | _____________________
