Decided to end spring break with a family hike in the Sedona area. Given the Phoenix heat wave, the 20 degree temp difference at Oak Creek made for perfect hiking conditions. Original plan was just to do Cathedral Rock, but when we stopped at the Ranger Station just south of the town of Oak Creek, we were encouraged to avoid the crowded parking a bit by starting at the Baldwin trailhead instead. That turned out to be a great choice. The hike was a good length, hiking along the creek was fun, and the views from the Cathedral Rock saddle were outstanding. On the way back, we took some time to play around in the creek at Red Rock crossing, then just followed the Verde Valley Road back up to the parking area. A great 4.5 miler overall, perhaps worthy of being listed as a separate hike.
