| no partners | | I did the Baldy Loop in a clockwise fashion. Yesterday we went up West Baldy for a few miles to see how my girlfriend would do in this altitude. She wasn't feeling well enough for the big loop today, so I hit it hard to get back in as short a time as possible. The mileage that the NFS posts on their signage is high. I am fast, but not that fast. The 15 miles that Belladonna posts is probably close to accurate. Definitely not more, like the 19 miles that one triplog author suggests. Would be interested to see some GPS stats on this loop. The trail map that follows the original topo map trail on the East Baldy side, which is posted here in the hike details, is inaccurate. I would imagine the trail was rerouted to stay on NFS land and off of the reservation. Beautiful hike, great trails for trail running. And yes, the picture of the calf elk is of a living animal.
My times and length estimates of the trails are as follows: East Baldy to West Baldy Junction / 5.25 miles / 2:05 (Brisk hike with some jogging) Junction to Summit and Back / 1 mile / :30 (Brisk hike) West Baldy to Crossover / 6 miles / 1:50 (Brisk hike with more jogging) Crossover to East Baldy / 2.75 miles / 1:05 (Brisk hike, getting tired ; ) Totals: 15 miles / 5:30 (includes breaks, lunch and 100 pics) |
