| partners | | Finally, after four months of planning, mapping/documenting/hiking the surrounding areas, and two camp area trip visits- 1st on 11/20/12, and a 2nd final confirming scouting trip on 2/18/13, it was time to begin my one week get ready & setup for this much anticipated Spring'13 (5 night-6 day) "Camp Grasshopper - Salt River Canyon Wilderness" Car Camp at the perennial Clay Spring area
I was so excited about camping, off-trail hiking, and wanting to share this awesome location-scenery area that I almost posted this outing as an open event on HAZ. It is a good thing that I did not do so as my 2/18 scouting trip would confirm that a number of my personal invitees would not be able to attend due mostly to my confirming on 2/18, a limited number of level campsites available, and a serious need for a 4WD vehicle to exit from camp UP FR346. After my apologies to those who could not join us for this first time extended visit, those of us noted above all who had 4WD vehicles proceeded to make our overnight and day plans. Outdoor Lover and trekkin gecko would fortunately be able to drive-in to the TH Start for our last full day outing on Sunday-3/24.
On most of my previously planned spring-summer-fall extended 5 night/6 day Car Camping-Hiking trips I usually set aside significant time for cooking nice dinners/breakfasts, relaxing around camp, and just basically doing nothing but enjoying Mother Nature at its remote best. This first time visit to this most awesome area just did not allow for such. There is just so much awesomeness to explore that we were moving every day and it was fun .
This trip was a huge success and I would like to encourage all who enjoy an area such as this to consider a visit. Just from the campsite area alone at the end of FR346, are two now confirmed and HAZ documented excellent off-trail hikes: Blackjack Wash to Salt River and Lower Yankee Joe Canyon Loop .
I believe Oregon Hiker summed it up best- "It was a fantastic 6 days with perfect weather, meeting new HAZ friends, and hiking in awesome scenery." Thank you all for joining me! |
