| partners | | Better temps for this one in about 2 months. However I was itching to get an apple report. Also Dave and I needed some rappelling practice.
Not as many apples this year. A few loaded trees here and there, a couple weeks off to ripe IMO.
We made it through the "rappels". Only one eight foot section required rope, at least for us. 6mm would have been plenty for everything else just to balance. Similar in pitch to the Shiva Exit Route. Worse here IMO as it's crumbly rock.
Top 20 footer is bypassed on the left. It's a slimy oasis with monkey flower if you really want to leave a trace through the moss.
The big one is about 40 plus 10. JJ and I down climbed with rope to steady, Dave Rappel Shappelle clipped in. I climbed up with the rope. It isn't absolutely necessary... JJ free soloed up. Dave clipped in but never needed it minus maybe the bottom 10 ft tree where most non-jj types would want rope.
Below the big daddy is a true drop. We just doubled up some webbing, fine for the maybe eight foot drop.
Due to our late start we didn't have time to make the overlook. I'm still loving this canyon!
1 small garter snake, 1 tarantula wasp, 1 tarantula on trail + 4 on the drive out
