I hiked up to the pools again from the beginning of La Barge creek today. I took a group of people I never figured would enjoy walking the entire way in the creek bed. I told them it was rough and it wasn't like anything we had hiked in previously together, they said they wanted to so we did. THEY LOVED IT. It wasn't what they expected, but we all had a great time. We returned via Boulder Canyon Trail just like I did on 01/25/02.

When I was at the pools before, I never saw Fritzski's fish, today I did. There are numerous small minnows in the pools. When I first arrived at the pools two days ago, I saw a very odd bird fly out of there. Then as I looked for a good spot to eat, I saw what looked like bird poop with small fish bones in it. Minutes later the odd bird was back. He flew around the corner from me, I ran around to see where he landed, because he looked like he was coming down. I didn't see him again. I noticed he had a large bill though. Today he came back, same routine, but as I ran around the corner asking where he went, he came right back past us all again and I got a good look. I'm pretty sure he was a Belted Kingfisher. I have only seen one other, and he was at a park here in Phoenix. If you were to sit quietly in the bushes, I bet you could see it come down for some easy minnows.
